The Wright State cross country teams were in action in Kenosha, Wisconsin to compete in the Horizon League Championships on Saturday, October 27th. The women ran a 6k race, and the men ran the 8k distance at Wayne Dannehl Cross Country Course.
The women placed second out of ten teams, and the men placed 7th out of nine teams competing this weekend. The second place finish by the women ties their highest place finish ever at the Horizon League Cross Country Championship (2016).
"These young ladies are tough as nails. They battled back after a rough start and just kept fighting until the end. Just shows the spirit of this group," WSU head coach Rick Williamson said. "The men ran a very solid race, really pushing the middle parts of the race. They have a bright future ahead of them."
On the men's side, it was business as usual for junior Nathan Dunn. Dunn finished fifth in the field of 88 runners with a time of 25:07.8, his second-best time of the year at the 8k distance and his highest placement this season. With his finish today, Dunn has placed in the Top-20 runners in four of the five meets this fall for the Raiders.
For the women, it was another day of great success, which saw three runners place in the top-20. Senior Aurora Turner place fourth overall with a time of 21:47.4, her best time at the 6k distance this year. Junior Shelby Nolan placed 10th overall with a time of 22:08.6 and senior Hailey Brumfield hauled in another top-20 finish placing 13th in 22:11.1.
Turner and Dunn were named to the first team while Nolan and Brumfield each picked up second-team honors.
The Raiders will next compete at the NCAA Regionals in Terra Haute, Indiana on Friday, November 9th.
