
@WSUBaseball Prepares for Nuxhall Classic

The Wright State baseball team will take off a couple days off from Horizon League action to play in the 10th Annual Joe Nuxhall Classic in Oxford, OH Tuesday and Wednesday. The Raiders will play Cincinnati at 3 pm on the first day followed by Xavier and Miami at 6 pm. The second day will feature games at 3 and 6 pm with the host Miami set for the late contest.
The Raiders, 18-11 and 8-4, is coming off a series win at UIC over the weekend. Zane Harris led WSU last week to a 3-1 overall record as Wright State won at Cincinnati 5-1 earlier in the week. He hit .538 in 13 at bats with seven hits, including a double and a homerun. Harris added two walks with a .846 slugging percentage. He is hitting a Horizon League-best .455 in 22 games for the Raiders overall. Pitcher Daniel Kreuzer picked up his fifth win of the season on Saturday by allowing one earned run with just four hits in seven innings at UIC. Derek Hendrixson secured his fifth save of the year in the final game of the series on Sunday.
Wright State is leading the Horizon League in hitting with a .290 batting average and second with a 3.99 ERA. The Raiders boast three of the top four league hitters.
JOE NUXHALL CLASSIC HISTORY
Named after former MLB pitcher Joe Nuxhall, who won 135 games in 16 seasons (15 with the Cincinnati Reds). The tournament began in 2009 with the goal of promoting amateur baseball in southwest Ohio. 2018 is the tenth year for the Classic as the Raiders have won four of the nine titles so far with an overall record of 10-8. Wright State won 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016. WSU lost to Miami 4-3 and Cincinnati 4-2 in 2017.
CINCINNATI
The Bearcats, 15-14 and 6-3 in the AAC, won three at home against Memphis over the weekend. The Raiders won two previous meetings with Cincinnati this season, 14-8 at WSU in mid-March and 5-1 at UC in a rain-shortened contest. Kyle Mottice leads the Bearcats with a .313 batting average with a team-high 23 runs. Manny Rodriguez has collected 23 RBI on five homeruns and 10 doubles with a .300 average. JT Perez has eight starts with a 3-3 record and a 2.50 ERA while reliever Jarod Yoakam is 4-0 with three saves.
XAVIER
The Musketeers, 11-19 and 1-2 in the Big East, opened league play over the weekend, losing two of three at Georgetown. On March 27, Xavier defeated the Raiders 2-0 in Cincinnati and took a three-game series against Miami. Conor Grammes leads XU at .317 with five homeruns, five doubles and 13 RBI. Joe Gellenbeck is hitting .298 with 17 RBI, 10 doubles and four homeruns. Damien Richard leads the pitchers with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts and 36 strikeouts over 36 innings.
MIAMI
The RedHawks, 17-10 and 6-3 in the MAC, have won two of three in their three Mid-American Conference weekends, including last weekend at home against Bowling Green. Ross Haffey is hitting .343 for MU with 18 RBI and five homeruns. Will Vogelgesang is hitting .330 with 16 runs. Spencer Mraz holds a 3-0 record with a 1.02 ERA in eight mound appearances while reliever Andy Almquist carries five saves.
