@WSUVBall Travels to Valpo

The Wright State volleyball team will take its 6-3 record to the Crusader Classic in Valparaiso, IN this weekend where they will play Western Illinois Friday at 5:30 pm and Cornell and host Valparaiso Saturday at 11 am and 8 pm.

Wright State
The Raiders enter the weekend with a 6-3 as Abby Barcus and Lainey Stephenson were named to the Wolfpack-Camels Invitational a week ago.  Barcus was named to the tournament teams at all three invitationals this year while it was Stephenson's first honor in college.  WSU has won six of their last eight matches.

Western Illinois
The Leathernecks are coming off a close 3-2 loss to Southeast Missouri Tuesday and currently hold a 1-9 record.  WIU won its first match of the season 3-0 over Fairliegh Dickinson.  Mackenzie Steckler and Jaime Johnson each garnered preseason accolades after being named as 'Players To Watch' in the Summit League as Western was chosen ninth in the preseason poll.  The Raiders lead the overall series 5-3, including matches from when the teams were in the Mid-Continent Conference together.

Cornell
The Big Red are 4-3 overall after going 2-2 in Houston last weekend.  Cornell was picked to finish fourth in the Ivy League after tying for third last year, its highest finish since 2006.  Jenna Phelps and Kit Mccarty return after receiving Ivy League honors a year ago while head coach Trudy Vande Berg was named the Coach of the Year.  The Raiders won the only meeting between the teams.

Valparaiso
The Crusaders are 9-2 after winning the Air Force Academy and the Chippewa Invitationals the last two weekends.  VU was picked to place fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference this year.  Valpo returns five starters and its libero among its 11 returning letterwinners, coming off of a fifth-place finish in The Valley last season.  Playing in the Mid-Continent Conference and the Horizon League together in the past, Valpo leads the overall 21-15.

Next Up
The Raiders end the tournament portion of their schedule this weekend and will host Milwaukee and UIC next weekend to start Horizon League play.
