Raiders win fifth straight

After their 61-57 win against Milwaukee, the Wright State women's basketball team traveled south to take on the Northern Kentucky Norse. On Saturday afternoon the Raiders moved to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play with their 61-55 against the Norse.

Michal Miller led all players with her 22 point performance, Mackenzie Taylor also scored in double-digits adding another 12 in the effort for the Raiders. Tyler Frierson led the Raiders in rebounds, hauling in eight while Taylor and Miller added another six each.

1st Quarter
The Norse were the first to strike with an early three-pointer in just over thirty seconds into the game. Michal Miller was the first Raider on the board when she grabbed a defensive rebound and quickly headed to the other end to finish off the play with a short jumper. A Mackenzie Taylor three-pointer and an Imani Partlow jumper would flip the game in favor of the Raiders, 7-5. After the media timeout the Norse would go on a 7-2 run against the Raiders and pull ahead 14-7. A Michal Miller jumper and free throw would pull the Raiders back within two points of the Norse. With time expiring in the quarter the Raiders would have a chance to gain the lead back but the three-point attempt fell short.

2nd Quarter
Angel Baker started off the scoring for Wright State who were looking at a four-point deficit. Quick scoring by Northern Kentucky on three consecutive possessions would extend their lead to 22-16 over the Raiders. A Michal Miller layup and free throw pulled the Raiders back within three but an NKU three would keep the Norse lead safe. Michal Miller and Symone Simmons each found scores and would tie the game at 26-26. With 24 seconds left in the half Mackenzie Miller would give the Raiders their first lead of the game when she found the net from three-point range.  The Raiders would enter halftime with a 29-26 lead over the Norse.

3rd Quarter
The Norse struck back quickly against the Raiders, finding a shot from deep and pulling the score even at 29-29. After the three-point shot the Raiders would go on a nine point run before the Norse found the net again. During the run, Michal Miller would score seven and Emily Vogelpohl would get her jumper to drop. After a Wright State foul Northern Kentucky would get their first points of the half from the free throw line. At the 6:01 mark Angel Baker found the net with a short jumper and kept the Raiders' lead at nine points. The Norse would pull back within six with a three-pointer but fouls would allow the Raiders to build their lead again. The remainder of the quarter would go neck and neck between the two teams with NKU outscoring WSU 7-6 in the final 4:10 of the quarter. Anisja Harris and Symone Simmons hit all four of their combined fouls shots and Michal Miller would add another score by layup to end the quarter.

4th Quarter

It would be another two minutes before either team scored again but Symone Simmons would get her layup to fall at the 7:35 mark. Mackenzie Taylor got her jumper to drop with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Taylor's score would give the Raider's their first double-digit lead of the game with the score standing at 54-43.
