@WSUWBasketball Takes Down Green Bay Handily Thursday

On Thursday night, the Wright State women's basketball team won its game against the Green Bay Phoenix by a score of 85-67. The Phoenix came into Thursday's game having beaten #16 Missouri and regional powerhouse Dayton in their challenging non-conference schedule. With a strong game under the basket and support by the shooting performance from behind the arc, the Raiders won their first game against the Phoenix in nearly five years. Mackenzie Taylor led all Raiders with 18 points, Michal Miller came away with 16, and Imani Partlow added another 10 points. With the win Wright State moves to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the Horizon League.

1st Quarter
The game started off with a bang for the Raiders as Tyler Frierson handily won the tipoff and Michal Miller finished the first possession with a three-pointer. On the next Raider possession Frierson hit a layup to put Wright State up 5-2. Green Bay hit back quickly though converting on free throws and also hitting a shot from behind the arc to go up 7-5 with 6:56 remaining in the quarter. Collecting their own rebound Imani Partlow hit her short jumper and also drew the foul on the play to tie the game at 7-7. Emily Vogelpohl would hit a three-pointer and then also convert an uncontested shot that came off a Mackenzie Taylor steal to put the Raiders up 12-9 halfway through the quarter. As time expired and falling out of bounds Green Bay player Laken James would hit a desperation three-pointer. The Raiders were able to come away with the 19-15 lead in the first quarter due to the monster performances of their players in the paint. Tyler Frierson and Imani Partlow combined for 11 points and 9 rebounds.

2nd Quarter
Michal Miller started off the scoring for the Raiders in the second with a three-point from the corner. On the ensuing two possessions Symone Simmons and Tyler Frierson would both collect offensive rebounds and hit the put backs. Weaving through the defense, Dasia Evans would collect the pass from Angel Baker and put in an impressive no look shot under the basket to give the Raiders a 28-19 lead. After two consecutive threes from Green Bay, Wright State would call a timeout with 4:54 remaining in the half and the score standing at 28-27. Coming out of the timeout Mackenzie Taylor would hit a stepback three to give the Raiders a four point lead. On the next two possessions Michal Miller would sink her three-point attempt from the top of the key and then Symone Simmons would also connect from deep. The deluge of shots would cause Green Bay to call a timeout with 2:30 remaining and finding themselves behind 37-27. With just over one minute remaining in the half Mackenzie Taylor would find the net with her shot from behind the arc and extend the Raider lead to 11 points. Entering halftime the score would stand at 42-31 in favor of Wright State.

3rd Quarter
The Raiders began the half on a six point run and extended their lead to 17 points before the Phoenix got on the scoreboard again. With just under seven minutes Angel Baker convert her three-point shot to give the Raiders a 51-35 lead. Subbing into the game Teneshia Dixon would spark the next flurry of Raider scoring which would trigger a Phoenix timeout. In the crowd under the basket Dixon was able to get her floater to drop and on the other end would also come up with a powerful rebound which turned into another three-pointer from Michal Miller. With 3:17 remaining in the quarter Mackenzie Taylor would receive the pass from Emily Vogelpohl and hit a three-pointer from behind her screen. After her three-pointer Taylor would score the next four Raider points. With the shot clock expiring Emily Vogelpohl put up a shot from deep but was off the mark, Tyler Frierson would gather the offensive rebound and hit her layup from under the basket. The Raiders would end the quarter leading the Phoenix 69-45, their largest lead of the game.

4th Quarter
Mackenzie Taylor put the first points on the board for the Raiders off of an inbound pass. Two possessions later Taylor would sink her fourth three-pointer of the night. Green Bay would gain some momentum due to Raider fouls and would pull back within 15 points.
