After claiming their second Horizon League series this weekend, Wright State prepares for a pair of games against the Xavier Musketeers (8-14). The two teams will square off from Nischwitz Stadium on Tuesday and then head to Cincinnati on Wednesday for a game at Xavier's Hayden Field.
Wright State (15-6) won four of five games last week including midweek victories over Cincinnati and Northwestern Ohio and a series victory over UIC on the road. Peyton Burdick led the Raider offense with a 9 for 21 (.429) mark at the plate including a 4 for 5 performance against Cincinnati. Burdick leads the Raiders in batting average (.392), home runs (3), RBI (22), walks (21), and on-base percentage (.536). On the mound, Sam Wirsing got his second win of the season against Cincinnati in a 5.2 inning performance, and Tristan Haught recorded the victory on Wednesday.
Xavier took two of three games against Evansville in their home opener last weekend. Marko Boricich is expected to make the start for the Musketeers on Tuesday followed by the righthander Matt Kent on Wednesday. At the plate, Chris Givins has hit .340 with a home run and eight RBI and has started in all 22 games for Xavier. Last season, Xavier shutout Wright State 2-0 at Hayden Field and Wright State outscored Xavier 9-7 at the 2018 Joe Nuxhall Tournament to split the series.
