Fairborn, Ohio - Â The Wright State baseball team (34-15, 16-8 Horizon, 1st place) will see its final home action of the regular season this weekend as the Northern Kentucky Norse (13-33, 11-12 Horizon, 4th place) Â come to Dayton for a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday night at 6:00 PM at Nischwitz Stadium. Saturday's 2:00 PM first pitch will also be at Nischwitz before the series heads to Fifth Third Field on Sunday, home of the Dayton Dragons professional baseball team. First pitch for the second annual Raider Day at Fifth Third Field on Sunday is slated for 1:00 PM, and tickets can still be reserved at daytondragons.com/raiderday.
The Northern Kentucky Norse enter Friday's game riding high, coming off a three-game sweep of Oakland last weekend in a series that was moved from Oakland to Highland Heights, Kentucky due to field conditions. The Norse also swept Horizon League Player (Andrew Bacon) and Pitcher (Joe Martin) of the week for their performances in the series. Will Haueter's .310 batting average and 54 hits have paced the Norse offense all season. Joe Martin's 5.06 earned run average leads the Norse staff, but as a whole they have surrendered an average of over 7 runs per game.
The Raiders will look to keep the bats hot against the Norse pitching staff, as Wright State comes into the game on a torrid pace at the plate, batting .298 as a unit with a .472 slugging percentage. Offense by committee has been a theme all season for the RaiderGang, with six every day players batting over .300. Mid-season All-American Peyton Burdick continues to lead the charge for WSU, batting .382 with 68 hits. Jake Schrand has surrendered only one earned run in his 10 appearances spanning 9.2 innings, while Zane Collins leads the staff in wins with seven. Bear Bellomy, Bradley Brehmer, and Sam Wirsing each have added six wins on the season.
