Raider bats lead to Saturday doubleheader sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Wright State baseball team won both sides of its doubleheader at UIC on Saturday, scoring 11 unanswered runs on the way to a 12-4 win in the opener before 7-0 victory in the second game of the day.

The Raiders (11-5, 11-0 Horizon) now look to complete the weekend sweep over UIC (3-10, 2-5 HL) on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Chicago.

The opening game saw UIC score two runs in the first and a third in the third inning before the Raiders got on the board in the top of the fourth thanks to Julian Greenwell's sacrifice fly, only to see the Flames add another run in the bottom of the fourth.

Wright State's offense got to work from there, scoring three runs in the fifth to tie the game on Tyler Black's three-run homer before four runs in both the sixth and seventh frames to close out the win. Damon Dues and Quincy Hamilton each had RBI singles in the sixth before the two were involved in the seventh inning scoring. Dues tripled down the right field line to bring in a pair before Hamilton connected on a two-run homer to wrap up the scoring.

Bradley Brehmer earned the win for the Raiders after striking out seven over six innings while allowing four runs on nine hits. Dues, Black and Konner Piotto each finished with three hits to pace the offense.

The second game of the afternoon was scoreless until fourth inning when Black singled back up the middle to bring home Dues. The Raiders added another run in the sixth on Zane Harris' RBI single before Harris drove home two runs in the seventh to break the game open. Wright State added three final runs in the eighth when Cameron Rountree doubled to left-center and brought home two runs and then later scored on a fielding error.

Alex Theis tallied his first win of the season after tossing five innings with six strikeouts for the Raiders before Sam Wirsing struck out two of his own over the final four innings. Offensively, Dues picked up three more hits, while Hamilton, Harris and Gehrig Anglin all had two hits in the win.
