Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Wright State baseball program fell to Michigan 21-9 on Wednesday night at Ray Fisher Stadium.
WSU dropped to 23-22 on the season while Michigan improved to 24-21 overall.
The Raiders were productive offensively with nine runs on 10 hits and eight walks.
Zane Harris led the way as he batted 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
Gehrig Anglin and
Julian Greenwell connected on solo home runs, while
Alec Sayre,
Andrew Patrick,
Justin Riemer, and
Luke Arnold added doubles.
Starting pitcher
Sam Wirsing (1-5) took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, in an inning of work.
Tristan Haught,
Donnie Nicodemus,
Logan Tabeling,
Brock Nartker, and
Justin Hornschemeier were tagged for runs in relief.
Bradley Deboutte was a bright spot out of the pen, as he held UM scoreless with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
Henry Von Hollen and
Riley Perlich also worked scoreless outings in relief.
Greenwell got the Raiders in front early, as he opened the game with his second lead-off homer of the season. However, the Wolverines took the lead in the bottom of the first with six runs on four hits, a walk, and an error, capped off by a three-run homer from Riley Bertram.
UM extended its lead to 8-1 after scoring twice in the second inning. The Wolverines put the non-conference contest out of reach with 10 runs in the bottom of the third, punctuated by a grand slam off the bat of Casey Buckley.
Trailing 18-1 entering the fourth inning, the Raiders scored in five consecutive frames, including four runs in the eighth. Michigan held on to its wide margin by adding runs of its own in the sixth and seventh innings.
WSU will return to action on Saturday, May 14, with a doubleheader versus Purdue Fort Wayne at home.
