Sarka earns second Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honor

INDIANAPOLIS — Wright State goalkeeper Kiera Sarka earned Under Armour Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in the last three weeks, the conference office announced on Monday.

Sarka collects the weekly award after posting a seven-save shutout in Wright State's 1-0 victory over Oakland (9/30) last Saturday. She recorded six of her seven saves in the second half, including four in the closing 20 minutes of play. The shutout performance — her third of the 2023 campaign — helped the Raiders improve to 3-1 against Horizon League opponents.

The senior currently holds top-50 national marks in total saves (46th, 55) and saves per game (49th, 5.00). She tallied a career-high 14 saves versus Dayton (9/3), tied for 12-most by a Division I goalkeeper this season and the highest mark by a Raider since Maddie Jewell's 14 saves against Milwaukee (11/2/17) during the 2017 campaign. The Twinsburg, Ohio native has added three or more saves in 10 of her 11 appearances this year.

Sarka and the Raiders will look to improve on their hot start in conference play against IUPUI this Thursday, October 5, at Alumni Field.
