Baseball hosts Xavier Wednesday

DAYTON — The Wright State baseball program will host in-state foe Xavier on Wednesday, March 29, at Nischwitz Stadium. The midweek tilt is slated for a 3 p.m. start. Admission will be free for all spectators. Live stats will also be available.
LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders are coming off a three-game sweep over Oakland in Horizon League play. Sammy Sass' two-run walk-off home run lifted Wright State to a 10-8 victory in the series opener. WSU outscored the Golden Grizzlies 22-1 in Sunday's doubleheader to secure the sweep.
HISTORY VS. XAVIER
Wright State leads the all-time series 39-32. The Raiders went 1-1 against Xavier last season, earning a 2-1 walk-off win in the first meeting before falling 13-4 to the Musketeers on the road. Drew Baker combined for three hits, while Garret Simpson recorded a pair of scoreless relief appearances over the two-game stretch in 2022.
SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS
Xavier is 11-12 overall under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Billy O'Connor. The Musketeers opened the 2023 season with five consecutive losses but have followed with 11 wins in their last 18 games, highlighted by series sweeps at Western Carolina and Wofford.

AWARDS SWEEP
Andrew Patrick and Sebastian Gongora swept the latest Horizon League weekly awards. Patrick earned Horizon League Batter of the Week after slashing .350/.391/.800 with three doubles, two homers, eight RBI, and seven runs scored over five wins last week, tallying three multi-hit performances, three multi-RBI games, and a 3-for-3 mark on stolen bases. Gongora tossed eight shutout innings in Wright State's series-clinching 9-1 victory over Oakland (3/26), allowing just five hits while striking out seven batters en route to HL Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in his collegiate career.
