Baseball set for meeting against Dayton Flyers at Day Air Ballpark

DAYTON — The Wright State baseball program will face the University of Dayton on Tuesday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m. at Day Air Ballpark, the home of the High-A Dayton Dragons. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 135th career meeting between the Raiders and Flyers.
Tickets are $5.00 for children (14 and under) and $10.00 for adults. Students from both Wright State and Dayton will be admitted free of charge.

LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders are coming off a three-game sweep over Youngstown State in Horizon League play. WSU earned an 11-6 win in the series opener and a 10-6 win in the finale. Bottom Smith's two-out, two-run walk-off double lifted Wright State to a 4-3 victory in the second game of the series.
HISTORY VS. UD
Wright State leads the all-time series 88-45-1, which includes a 17-1 mark against Dayton dating back to the 2009 season. The Raiders went 1-1 versus the UD in 2022, shutting out the Flyers 14-0 in their home opener before losing 9-3 on the road.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 11-24 overall under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Jayson King. The Flyers boast a 5-4 record in conference action and midweek wins over Miami (OH), Akron, Northern Kentucky, and Purdue Fort Wayne.
Senior infielder Ben Jones has been UD's top hitter, as he leads the team in batting average (.371), doubles (10), runs (29), and OPS (1.119). Senior first baseman Marcos Pujols is batting .328 with six doubles, nine homers, and 22 RBI.

Andrew Patrick tops the Horizon League in runs scored (41) while possessing top-five conference marks in hits (2nd, 45), doubles (2nd, 12), triples (2nd, 3), slugging percentage (2nd, .703), OPS (2nd, 1.152), stolen bases (2nd, 15), home runs (3rd, 9), and hit by pitch (4th, 8). The Hilliard, Ohio native has recorded a team-leading seven three-hit performances and has a pair of two-home run, five RBI games.

Julian Greenwell has recorded eight multi-hit performances over his last 10 games, climbing his batting average from .174 to .294. The junior is slashing .500/.565/1.000 in the stretch with six doubles, two triples, three homers, 11 RBI, and 11 runs scored.

Starting pitcher Sebastian Gongora — the preseason Pitcher of the Year by D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game USA — is 5-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 48.1 innings of work. The redshirt sophomore ranks first in the Horizon League in ERA and wins.

The Raiders rank 31st nationally with 64 stolen bases. Andrew Patrick has swiped a team-high 15 bases, while Gehrig Anglin has stolen 12 bases in 24 games.
BREAKOUT WEEK
Avery Fisher started at all five games at second base for the Raiders last week, batting .412 with a double, a homer, three RBI, seven runs, and a perfect 7-for-7 mark on stolen bases.

Gehrig Anglin and Julian Greenwell collected All-League First Team honors, while Jay Luikart, Jake Shirk, and Alex Theis were named to the Second Team. Sebastian Gongora, Andrew Patrick, and Justin Riemer earned spots on the All-Freshman Team.
PRO RAIDERS
Sean Murphy, drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2016, and Jesse Scholtens, drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2016, are the Raiders' two current Major League players. Murphy debuted with the Athletics in September 2019 and earned the Gold Glove award following the 2021 season. He signed a 6-year, $73 million contract extension with the Atlanta Braves in December 2022, which includes a $15 million club option for the 2029 season. Scholtens made his long-awaited debut for the Chicago White Sox on April 7, 2023. He struck out four batters while allowing only one run in three innings in his first-ever MLB appearance. Peyton Burdick was drafted by the Miami Marlins in 2019 and debuted for the organization on August 2022, finishing the season with four homers and 11 RBI. He is currently with the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Joe Smith spent 15 years (2007-2022) in the big leagues as a reliever with eight different clubs and currently sits Top 40 all-time with 866 career pitching appearances.
