Volleyball opens postseason play on Thursday night

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball team begins its postseason journey in the NIVC on Thursday night when the Raiders take on Bowling Green, who advanced to Thursday's Super 16 round with a Wednesday four-set win over Binghamton.Thursday's match will take place in Bowling Green at the Stroh Center and will get underway at 7 p.m., with fans able to follow the action via live stats or by watching on ESPN+.

HOW WE GOT HERE
Wright State earned an automatic berth into the NIVC after clinching its third straight Horizon League regular season title this fall - the Raiders' fifth HL regular season championship in the last six years. Arizona and Virginia joined Wright State as the only other schools in the field to earn first round byes.

NATIONALLY SPEAKING. . .
Wright State enters the postseason with a 13.83 assists per set average, No. 1 in the country, while the Raiders' 14.62 kills per set average is No. 2 nationally.Lauren Yacobucci's 11.96 assist per set average is No. 1 in the country while her 1,292 total assists are No. 4 nationally. 

RPI SEE YOU
In the latest RPI release on Nov. 30, Wright State was ranked No. 50 nationally, by far the best in the Horizon League and fourth-best among teams not in the NCAA Tournament (Rice 39, Arizona 42, Pepperdine 49). Arizona is the only team from this group playing in the NIVC.

RUNNING THE SHOW
Sophomore Lauren Yacobucci has stepped right in to the starting setter role for the Raiders, currently averaging 11.96 assists per set, No. 1 nationally. Yacobucci has 19 matches to date with 40 or more assists (8 matches with 50-plus assists), including a career-best 57 assists on Oct. 26 against Green Bay, along with 56 assists against Buffalo and 54 helpers against Green Bay on Nov. 23. She's putting up those numbers despite the fact that Wright State has played in 18 three set matches and has played five sets only six times to date.

NIVC HISTORY
This marks Wright State's fourth time playing in the NIVC tournament, with the Raiders also playing in the 1989, 1991 and 1993 versions of the tournament, hosting in 1991. Joylynn Brown played in the Raiders' first two NIVC trips, was an assistant coach in the third tourney and now is Wright State's Athletic Director for this fourth trip.

KNOW THE FOES
- Bowling Green enters the Thursday at 22-9 overall after Wednesday's four-set win over Binghamton in the NIVC opening round. The Falcons posted a 16-2 mark in the MAC and captured the MAC regular season title, falling in the MAC tournament semifinals to Western Michigan.
-Bowling Green collected seven MAC postseason honors, with Lauryn Hovey named the MAC Player of the Year and earning her third All-MAC First Team recognition in as many seasons. Head Coach Danijela Tomic was named the MAC Coach of the Year for the third time. 

LAST MEETING
- The Raiders have faced Bowling Green 32 times in program history, most recently earlier this season in September inside McLin Gym, with Bowling Green winning in four sets. Wright State and Bowling Green also played a four-set match last September inside the Stroh Center.
