Volleyball heads to northeast Ohio for weekend action

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball team stays on the road and heads to northeast Ohio for a pair of matches this weekend at Cleveland State. Friday night's match is set for a 6 p.m. start before a 2 p.m. first serve on Saturday afternoon. Both matches are expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State dropped a five-set battle on Tuesday night at Northern Kentucky for its first Horizon League loss of the season. Reilly Zegunis finished with a team-best 16 kills and turned in nine blocks for the Raiders, who also got 14 kills and 11 digs from Katie Sowko as she notched her seventh double-double of the year. Mya Ayro was the third Raider with double double-digit kills, tallying 13, while Taylor Bransfield and Elena Dubuc both finished with seven kills and combined for 10 blocks. Lauren Yacobucci passed out 42 of Wright State's 56 assists as Taygan Corstange collected a mach-high 25 digs and Ella Gaona added 17 digs of her own.

THE REAL CHAMPS ARE. . .
This weekend marks a meeting between 2025 Horizon League regular season champ Wright State and Cleveland State, winners of the 2025 Horizon League tournament.

SERIES SHAKEDOWN
Wright State leads the all-time series 47-37 over Cleveland State thanks in part to a pair of Raider sweeps in Cleveland last season. The Raiders have won the last 15 meetings against the Vikings dating back to November 2018.

KNOW THE FOE
- Cleveland State is 2-12 overall and has dropped its first three Horizon League matches entering the weekend. One of the wins came against Power opponent Duke with the other coming at home against Kent State.
- Cleveland State has won two of 11 sets to date in Horizon League play, taking a set in the HL opener at Northern Kentucky on September 26 before taking a set at Oakland on Tuesday night. 

KATIE KATIE
Katie Sowko has seven double-doubles in 14 matches to date this season, including turning in a 19 kill, 18 dig effort against Ohio State on Sept. 13. Sowko had a career-high 22 kills as part of a double-double against Loyola Chicago (Aug. 30).

LAUREN'S WORLD
Lauren Yacobucci is currently averaging 9.15 assists/set through 14 matches with 25-plus assists in every match to date, with a season high mark of 55 in the win over Ohio State. Yacobucci has seven double-doubles and counting in 2025.
