Peltier’s Seventh Inning Homer Gives Raiders 11-10 Win at Miami (OH)

Box Score OXFORD, Ohio – The Wright State baseball team defeated Miami (OH) 11-10 on Tuesday afternoon. The win comes thanks to a seventh inning two-run homer by JP Peltier.
 
Wright State (3-3) finished with 11 runs on 11 hits with seven walks against their 12 strikeouts. Cam Gilkerson led the team with three hits, followed by Hunter Warren and Peltier, who added two hits each. The Raiders had five extra-base hits, as Peltier went yard twice and Gilkerson once, while Luke Arnold had a triple and Conlan Daniel a double.
 
Wright State opened the day with four runs in the first. Smith reached on a single and Warren on a walk. Will Cook singled to center field, allowing Smith to score. Manley was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Arnold's triple allowed Cook, Manley, and Warren to score, 4-0. The RedHawks tied the score in the bottom of the first, scoring on a three-run homer and on an RBI ground out, 4-4.
 
Peltier hit his first home run of the day, reclaiming the lead in the top of the second. But Miami put up three runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 7-5 advantage. The RedHawks first scored on a passed ball, then on an RBI single, and finally on a hit-by-pitch RBI. Manley was walked to open the third, scoring on a Gilkerson homer to right field, tying the game at seven.
 
The Raider pitching staff held Miami scoreless through the third and fourth innings, while WSU put up two runs in the fifth to retake the lead, 9-7. After Manley and Arnold were walked, a Gilkerson single loaded the bases for an RBI walk by Daniel to put Manley across home plate. The Raiders scored again with a sacrifice fly by Peltier sending Arnold to score. The RedHawks answered with their second three-run home run of the day, taking a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth, 10-9. After a scoreless sixth, Daniel doubled before Peltier's second home run delivered the game-winning runs, 11-10.
 
Noah Williamson (1-0) earned the win after pitching one and a third innings, allowing no runs or hits. Williamson walked two batters while striking out two. Garrett Peters secured his second save of the season, allowing one hit and striking out one in the final inning. Max Whitesell notably entered in the second, striking out two batters in one inning while allowing no runs or hits. Freshman left-handed pitcher J.J. Thompson put in two innings on the mound, striking out two while walking one.
 
Miami (3-5) finished with 10 runs on nine hits and 12 walks while striking out nine times. David Novak led the team with three hits and four RBI, including a home run. Carson Byers (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on three hits. Byers struck out five batters over four and a third innings.
 
The Raiders will play again in a three-game series at #24 Ole Miss beginning February 28 through March 2. Fans can follow the action via live stats and watch the game on SEC Network+.
