Raiders Travel to Cincinnati for Midweek Matchup at Xavier

DAYTON – The Wright State baseball team is on the road, taking on Xavier on Tuesday, April 1. The game is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch and will have live stats provided. Fans can keep up with the game through the Musketeers' AWRE TV live video feed and radio broadcast. Â

Wright State is coming off a series sweep against Youngstown State, defeating the Penguins 10-9 on Friday before sweeping Saturday's doubleheader 9-5 and 10-9.

WSU posted a .327 team batting average in the series, with five Raiders hitting over .300. Hunter Warren led the team hitting .571, followed by Braylen Blomquist (.444), JP Peltier (.364), Boston Smith (.364), and Will Cook (.333). Peltier led the team with six RBIs, collecting four hits, including two home runs and a double.

Chet Lax earned the win in game two, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out two. Garrett Peters made two appearances from the bullpen, closing in the series opener and finale. Peters earned the save in game three, tossing 2.1 innings while allowing one run on three hits with no walks and striking out three.

Xavier is currently 14-14 on the season, going 2-1 in Big East play. The Musketeers recently took a series against UConn, winning the opener 8-6, dropping game two 9-4, and claiming the rubber match 10-7.

Since 1973, Wright State leads the all-time series against Xavier, 43-37. The two went 1-1 last season, each winning on home turf. Less than two weeks after his collegiate debut, Nate Manley had a breakout game at Xavier last season, driving in four runs with two home runs.

Sophomore outfielder JP Peltier has been a force at the plate, ranking among the nation's top home run hitters. He leads the league with 10 total homers and ranks No. 25 nationally in home runs per game (0.42).

HEAD COACH – ALEX SOGARD
Leading the charge for Wright State is head coach Alex Sogard, who has built a powerhouse program during his tenure. After leading the Raiders to a 32-24 overall record, earning their sixth HL Regular Season title, Sogard earned his fourth Horizon League Coach of the Year honor in 2024, becoming the first to do so in program history. Â

His Coach of the Year awards are not the only accomplishment Sogard achieved at WSU. In 2019, Sogard took the Raiders to a 42-17 record, tallying the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history. Sogard led the Raiders to three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances, 2021-2023, being named the 2021 ABCA/ATEC East Coach of the Year. In June 2021, Sogard was named to the 2021 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team coaching staff.
