Raiders Can’t Overcome Early Hole in 11-5 Loss to Xavier

Xavier wasted no time, scoring six runs in the first inning, beginning with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. The Musketeers added to their lead with a run-scoring groundout and an RBI walk. A two-run double extended Xavier's lead, and a wild pitch allowed another run to score, capping off a six-run first inning. Xavier kept the momentum going in the second, extending the lead to 9-0 on a two-run homer and an RBI double. The Musketeers capped their scoring in the third with a two-run homer to right field.
Wright State avoided the shutout in the fourth when Cam Gilkerson launched a three-run homer to right, scoring Fultz and Peltier. The Raiders tacked on two more in the seventh as Luke Arnold scored when Hunter Warren reached on a fielder's choice, forcing out Boston Smith at second. A throwing error on a Patrick Fultz single allowed Dane Thomas to score, marking Wright State's final run of the game.
With the loss, the Raiders drop to 14-12 overall, as starter Brayden Schoetzow took the defeat. Wright State will stay on the road for Horizon League play, traveling to Northern Kentucky for a three-game series starting Friday, April 4 at 3 p.m.
