CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Wright State baseball team fell in extra innings on the road at Charlotte Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-5.
Â
Wright State (1-4) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for the series finale against Charlotte. First pitch at Hayes Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
Â
Hunter Warren got the Raiders on the board first, launching a solo shot over the wall in left field in the top of the first inning. The homer is the first of the season for the reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year.
Â
Nate Manley would double the Wright State lead in the second inning, bringing Andrew Duncan in to score on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second.
Â
Charlotte would tie the game up with a solo shot in the bottom of the third and an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth.
Â
Wright State would once again take a two-run lead thanks to single tallies in the seventh and eighth innings. Nate Manley would lay down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to first base that would allow JP Peltier to score from third. Peltier would then beat out an infield single in the top of the eighth to bring home Gus Gregory.
Â
Charlotte would once again answer back and tie the game in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run single off the bat of Alec Demartino. Both teams would threaten with a runner in scoring position in the ninth, but neither team was able to bring home the winning run quite yet.
Â
After stranding a Wright State runner on first in the top of the tenth, Charlotte would go on to walk off the Raiders in the bottom of the tenth on an RBI single by Spencer Noah.
Â
Griffen Paige got the start on the mound for the Raiders, going 4.1 innings and allowing two runs on three hits before turning the ball over to the WSU bullpen. Michael Bilo was the first man out of the bullpen for the Raiders, and the right-hander pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit and one walk. Michael Zielinski and Malachi Paplanus also saw action out of the bullpen, combining to pitch the last three-plus innings.
