Wright State (11-12, 5-0 HL) will go for the series sweep of Oakland Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Nischwitz Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
The Raiders would open the scoring in a big way with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. JP Peltier brought in the first two runs of the game on a two-run single through the left side of the Sinfield. Nate Manley and Braylen Blomquist would follow with two more RBI singles, with Blomquist coming in to score a few pitches later on a throwing error by the Golden Grizzlies' third baseman. The Raiders would bat around in the inning with Hunter Waren recording his second hit of the frame, this time a two-run single to left field.
Wright State would follow up its seven-run first inning with two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Keegan Holmstrom would bring home Peltier on an RBI triple up the left field line and come in to score on a Manley sacrifice fly.
Oakland would cut into the Wright State lead with one run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth to make it a 9-3 Raider lead.
Griffen Paige got the start on the mound for the Raiders, pitching four innings, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out three Oakland batters.
Wright State got two more runs of insurance in the sixth when Duncan served a two-run single out to center field.
Sophomore Noah Cassell pinch-hit in the bottom of the eighth and recorded his first collegiate hit, serving a single out to right field.
Oakland attempted to make a ninth-inning comeback, plating two runs in the inning, but it was too little too late.
Malachi Paplanus was the first man out of the bullpen for the Raiders, pitching three shutout innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out three. Cooper Ashby pitched one no-hit inning, striking out one Oakland batter. Abe Crall and Cooper Gilkerson combined to pitch the ninth inning to seal the game for the Raiders.
