Men's Soccer Slips Past Cleveland State

Box Score

The Wright State men's soccer team posted their second straight Horizon League victory on Sunday at Alumni Field, besting Cleveland State 2-1. The Raiders used goals from Braden Fleak and Tebias Mason had to make only one save in the win.

Cleveland State got the scoring started in the seventh minute when Eric Tatttersall netted a shot from 15 yards out on the right side of the field into the upper corner of the net. Josh Williams set up the marker that slipped just past the diving WSU keeper.

With CSU leading 1-0, the Raiders mounted an attack late in the period to knot the game one goal apiece. Adam Harp sent a long crossing pass from the right flank that was redirected towards the far post by Tony Labudovski. Fleak settled the ball at his feet and struck a solid ball into the net for his second goal in as many games.

The two teams entered the half tied at 1-1 on the scoreboard and tied 6-6 in shots.

In the second half, the two league foes traded attacks but would come up empty handed until Haggit capitalized on a CSU miscue. Harp sent his second crossing pass from the right flank into the box. Vikings keeper Dan Duric had the ball slip through his hands and right to Haggit who blasted the shot into the open net to give WSU a 2-1 advantage.

In the match, WSU outshot the Vikings 11-7 and forced the CSU keeper to make three saves. Each squad took seven corner kicks and committed 18 fouls apiece. Fleak and Milovan Milosevic each attempted three shots in the match, while Carl Ebers launched a pair of shots.

Haggit scored the first goal of his career in the match and is the first Raider rookie to record a point this season. Harp added a pair of assists in the match, his first multi-assist game, and Tony Labudovski assisted on the first WSU goal.

The Raiders improve to 4-11 overall this season and are now 2-4 in Horizon League play. The Raiders will take a step outside of league action to take on IPFW on Friday, October 26 in Fort Wayne. The Raiders and Mastodons will take to the pitch for a 7:00 kickoff.
