Box Score 2 The Wright State baseball team took an early lead in game one at Butler, but fell 3-1, and fell behind early in game two before rallying for an 11-5 victory. The Green and Gold scored nine runs in the fifth inning of the second game to take the series from Butler at Bulldog Park.
A pair of doubles got the Raiders on the board in the first inning of game one. Dan Biedenharn sent a one-out double into center field and Jeremy Hamilton sent a double over the head of the left fielder to give WSU a 1-0 lead.
Wright State starting pitcher Erich Schanz walked the first two batters of the third inning and that enabled Butler to score two runs. Nate Hart sent a Schanz pitch back up the middle, just missing the glove of Schanz, to score two runs and give BU a 2-1 lead.
Raiders threaten in the fifth, putting two runners on base with singles by Nick Allsop and Ross Oeder, but couldn't push a run across the plate.
Joe Pauley singled to start the inning and scored on a Tony Barnes double to right-center field, pushing the BU lead to 3-1. Schanz was relieved by Scott Ruthven after the run scored, ending his day after 5 1/3 innings of work.
Schanz falls to 1-3 on the season and allowed three runs on five hits, walked three and struck out one batter. Ruthven threw the final 2.1 innings scoreless and hasn't allowed a run in his last 3.2 innings of work.
Brian Bokowy (3-1) threw all nine innings for the Bulldogs and walked only one batter in the victory. The Raiders collected six hits off the left-hander but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities, leaving eight runners stranded.
In game one, Allsop and Oeder each collected two hits and Hamilton drove in his 15th run of the season. Three other Raiders collected hits, but the Green and Gold struck out eight times in the contest.
The Bulldogs jumped on top of the Raiders early in game two when a pair of Justin Parker errors led to two unearned runs. Butler added another run in the third on an RBI double off the bat of Joel Matheny to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Green and Gold broke through in the fifth inning, ending the day of BU starter Jeff Sinkiewicz, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs. J.C. Ramatowski got things started with an RBI single, while Aaron Fields, John Kopilchack and Biedenharn each collected a pair of RBI's in the inning.
John Kopilchack kept things going in the sixth inning with a one-out walk. Oeder followed that with a single to right field to extend his hitting streak to twelve games, before Biedenharn plated Kopilchack with a single of his own. Hamilton then plated Oeder with a double to right-center field to extend the WSU lead to 11-3.
Kyle Kearcher threw six innings before being relieved by Greg Robinson. Kearcher allowed three runs, only one earned, and struck out four in the contest. In relief, Robinson allowed two runs in an inning of work, Dan Barker completed a scoreless inning and John Lambert threw a scoreless ninth.
Biedenharn belted out three hits, stole a base and drove in three runs in game two. Fields, Kopilchack each posted two hits and drove in a pair of RBI's, while Hamilton posted two hits, extending his hitting streak to four games.
The Raiders improve to 8-5 overall on the season and sit atop the Horizon League standings with a 2-1 record. The Green and Gold will square off with SEC foe Tennessee at 7:00 on Tuesday evening in Knoxville, Tennessee.
