Box Score Down 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Wright State softball team rallied with a Kristen Bradshaw double and two wild pitches to pull out a 4-3 win Sunday over the Butler Bulldogs in the Horizon League series finale at the WSU Softball Field.
The Raiders scored a run without the benefit of a hit in the first as Jherica Williams was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, stole second, went to third on a Briauna Birl bunt and scored on Bradshaw's sacrifice fly to left.
It stayed that way until Butler went in front in the fourth on back-to-back home runs from Jenny Jacobs and Alex Boros. The Bulldogs added an unearned run in the fifth as Amy Hyerczyk doubled in pinch-runner Jen Arriaga.
Butler (13-11, 2-1 Horizon) maintained that 3-1 advantage until Wright State put together its game-winning rally in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Michelle Logan singled just out of the reach of Boros in left field and Williams followed with a double to the gap in left center to put runners at second and third.
Bulldog pitcher Kristen Malinkey struck out Erica Schroeder for the second out, but Bradshaw tied the game as she drove a 1-0 pitch off the fence in left for a double to plate Logan and Williams. Three pitches later, the game ended as reliever Jennifer Chasteen's second straight wild pitch allowed Bradshaw to come in with the winning run.
Williams, Kristen Farley and Logan each had two hits to pace the Raider offense. Jamie Perkins (6-9) picked up the win in the circle as she struck out four with no walks and two earned runs in the complete-game effort.
Wright State, now 12-16 overall and 1-2 in the Horizon League, returns to action on Tuesday, April 3, with a 2:00 home doubleheader against IUPUI.
