Editor's Note: The COVID-19 pandemic caused the abrupt end to sports for the 2019-20 academic year. We are not able to host Senior Day ceremonies to thank these seniors for their dedication to their chosen sport. As a result, we will be posting senior salutes for each senior class over the coming weeks.

On March 30, the NCAA Division I Council voted to allow schools to provide spring-sport student-athletes an additional season of competition and an extension of their period of eligibility.

The shortened 2020 season for Wright State softball featured three seniors as the Raiders seven wins in the limited campaign. At this time, we recognize seniors
Lauren Deitrick,
Rebekah Lenos and
Brianna Hutchinson.
Â

A native of Massillon, Ohio,
Lauren Deitrick has appeared in 138 career games for the Raiders with 117 starts.
Â
"There is nothing like getting to travel, experience new things, overcome obstacles, and play softball with some of your closest friends," she said. "My best memories are competing with my teammates and the process of building our program to be better each day."
Â
"Lauren has been a core member of the Wright State softball program for four years and her level of commitment to being a great teammate and holding our program to a high standard has been remarkable," head coach
Laura Matthews said. "She's worn so many hats for our program: leader, infielder, outfielder, pitcher, role model, speed threat, power threat… just to name a few. She is everything you hope for in a student-athlete in terms of her character, her effort level and talent. She was off to a great start to her senior year when our season was canceled, and it's a shame we didn't get to see it play through."
Â
Â

A native of Middletown, Ohio,
Rebekah Lenos has appeared in 122 career games for the Raiders with 110 starts and was named to both the Horizon League Second Team and the Horizon League Academic Team in 2019.
Â
Bekah is one of the grittiest competitors I've been around and you could really see it in the batter's box in the biggest moments," head coach
Laura Matthews said. "She overcame offseason wrist surgery to battle back and become an even better player her shortened senior year. She's been the engine for our offense since she transferred to Wright State her sophomore year, and has consistently improved each year. Bekah is so smart, and you can see it on the field in the way she plays and when you talk to her. There is no doubt that Bekah is going to succeed at a high level after graduation.
Â

A native of Franklin, Ohio,
Brianna Hutchinson has appeared in 71 career games for the Raiders with 69 starts.
Â
"I will never forget the moment this team fought back and beat Nebraska when we were on our spring trip in Arizona (this spring)," she said. "Our energy was high, and our team never stopped fighting. I came into that game to hit in a big situation. Knowing my team and coaches believed in me to get the job done pushed me. When I got that hit for my team… it was a feeling I cannot explain. I am happy to be a Raider and play with and for such amazing people."
Â
"Bree was off to an insane start to her senior year. She was hitting .405 with an on-base percentage of .528," head coach
Laura Matthews said. "It's even more remarkable that she was doing that after coming off of shoulder surgery the previous summer. Her poise and competitiveness on the field were contagious to her teammates, and she always has shown a commitment to improvement. Bree is one of the most selfless players I've ever coached. She consistently puts others above herself and considers everyone else before her own self-interest."
