Box Score 2 The recent offensive struggles continued Thursday afternoon for the Wright State softball team as the Raiders managed just one run in dropping a doubleheader at Ball State, falling 8-0 in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap.
Jamie Perkins allowed just two earned runs in a complete-game effort in the first game, but three WSU errors led to six unearned runs, including three in the first inning.
The Raiders had a chance to cut into the 3-0 deficit as they loaded the bases with one out on hits by Kristen Farley and Michelle Logan and a walk by Jacqueline Macy, but Cardinal pitcher Amanda Pick pitched out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts.
Game two was a scoreless pitcher's duel between Allison Cox and BSU's duo of Laura Masch and Elizabeth Milian heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Cardinals, though, broke the deadlock with a pair of runs in the sixth, one of those being earned.
Wright State scored what turned out to be its lone run of the day in the seventh. With one out, Perkins walked and a Logan groundout advanced pinch-runner Erica Schroeder to second. After an error put runners on the corners, Dana Boehmer followed with a hit to center to drive in Schroeder and the Raiders had two runners in scoring position as Ball State tried to get an out at third.
WSU, however, could get no closer as Macy was retired on a close play following a chopper wide of the bag at first.
Kristen Bradshaw and Logan each had two hits on the day for Wright State, who takes a 16-23 mark into a Horizon League weekend series at UW-Green Bay. The Raiders and Phoenix will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 2:00 Eastern, followed by a single game on Sunday at Noon Dayton time.
