Softball Advances With 7-2 Win Over Butler

Box Score

The bottom six batters in the Wright State order collected 12 hits and scored all but one run as the Raiders used a five-run fifth to pull away for a 7-2 win over the Butler Bulldogs Friday morning in the winner's bracket semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament in Cleveland.

WSU opened the scoring with two runs in the second. Jamie Perkins led off with a hit to right, advanced to second on a Kristen Farley bunt and scored as Jacqueline Macy's single went past the Butler left fielder for an error. Macy, who moved up to second on the play, went to third on an Allison Cox hit through the left side and came in to score on another Bulldog error off the bat of Malerie Klingler.

Butler, though, cut the deficit in half with a run in the third on an Annie Dolan double and a later RBI ground out by Bridget Paine and it stayed that way until the decisive fifth.

With one out, Jherica Williams doubled to right center and another Perkins hit to right put runners on the corners. Farley then drove an 0-2 pitch down the right field line for an RBI double and a Macy hit to center drove in another. After a Cox single to right loaded the bases, another Butler error resulted in a run and WSU tacked on two more on a Briauna Birl infield hit and a Michelle Logan sacrifice fly.

That would be all the offense Cox (15-13) would need as she picked up the complete-game victory, scattering eight hits and a walk while striking out one.

Macy paced the Raider attack with three hits and scored twice while Perkins, Farley, Cox and Birl each had two hits, with Perkins also scoring twice.

Wright State, now 23-33 on the season, takes UIC, a 2-1, 12-inning winner over Loyola, in the winner's bracket finals Friday night at 6:00. Should the Raiders win, they would advance to the championship Saturday at noon. A loss would drop WSU into the loser's bracket final Saturday at 9 a.m.
