Baseball Falls 5-1 at Central Michigan

Box Score

The Wright State baseball team dropped a nonconference affair at Central Michigan on Tuesday, falling 5-1. Three Raiders collected hits and Brian Shoup accounted for the only RBI in the loss.

The Chippewas got their offense started in the first inning as WSU starter Ross Vagedes issued a one-out walk, followed by a single. With the runners moving, Vagedes threw a wild pitch and allowed the first run to score. That was followed by a Ben Humphrey sacrifice fly that pushed CMU's lead to 2-0.

Central Michigan added to their lead with one run in the second inning and a single run in the fourth to push their lead to 4-0.

Vagedes threw three innings in the start and allowed only three hits and three runs in the loss. Vagedes, now 0-1 overall this season, walked five and struck out one before handing the ball to Dan Barker.

Barker made his 11th appearance of the season, striking out one and allowing one run in an inning of work.

Greg Robinson and Jordan Wolfe each threw a scoreless inning for the Raiders, with Robinson recording one strikeout.

Nate Stevens threw the seventh inning and surrendered a solo home run and Jason Bennion threw a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two.

The Raiders got on the board in the ninth inning as Oeder reached on an error to start the inning and Dan Biedenharn moved him to third with a base hit through the right side. Brain Shoup then grounded into a fielders choice to score Oeder and collect his 40th RBI of the season.

Oeder was one-for-three, reaching base three times, and scored his 70th run of the season in the contest. Vagedes collected a hit and Biedenharn extended his hitting streak to twenty games with a single in the ninth inning.

The Raiders fall to 32-19 overall on the season and will finish the regular season with a three-game home series against UIC. The Green and Gold will kick the series off with a 6:30 contest with the Flames on Friday, May 18, at Nischwitz Stadium.
