O's Lead Baseball Past Bowling Green, 10-6

Box Score

The Raiders pounded out 15 hits and scored double-digit runs for the 12th time this season to down Bowling Green 10-6 at Steller Field. Gerald Ogrinc drove in a career-high four RBI's in the WSU victory.

For the second time in four games, Ross Oeder swung at the second pitch of the game and took it over the left field fence for a home run. That got the scoring started and was the only run of the first inning for the Raiders.

The Falcons added a pair of runs in the second inning off of WSU starter Alex Kaminsky. Brian Hangbers smacked a two-RBI triple down the right field line to push Bowling Green ahead 2-1.

The Raiders answered with a pair of runs in the third inning as Gerald Ogrinc gave WSU the lead with a two-RBI double down the left field line.

Oeder collected his second home run of the game in the fourth inning, taking BGSU starter Marty Baird deep to left field, and pushed the WSU lead to 4-2. It is the first multi-home run of Oeder's career and gives him a team high seven in 2007.

The Green and Gold extended their lead to four runs in the fifth inning on their third home run of the contest. Shoup led the inning off with a hit-by-pitch, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and Ogrinc sent the ball 385 feet over the left field fence. It was the third long ball of the season for Ogrinc and gave WSU a 6-2 lead.

Kaminsky threw four innings and allowed only two runs on four hits. The right-hander struck out four and walked one in the game, improving to 2-0 on the season.

The Falcons closed the gap to 6-5 in their half of the fifth inning on WSU relief pitcher Chris Nighland. BGSU used an RBI single from Ryan Shay and a two-run homer from Josh Dietz to pull within one run.

In the seventh inning, Parker doubled over the left fielders head and scored after a Brian Shoup sacrifice bunt was thrown into right field. Parker crossed the plate and Shoup stood on third with no outs in the inning. Shoup later scored on a single from Sam Mote to push the Raiders lead to 8-5.

The double is the 22nd of the season for Parker and sets the new single season mark for WSU. Mark Frankenberg and Kris Jarosz each shared the record with 21 doubles before Parker eclipsed the mark.

Nighland threw three innings in relief for the Green and Gold and allowed three runs. Nighland walked one, allowed four hits and struck out one batters in his 11th appearance of the season.

Jeremy Hamilton doubled to start the eighth inning and came around to score on a Shoup single to right field. It was the only run of the inning for WSU, extending their lead to 9-5.

The Falcons tacked on a run in the eighth inning when the first batter was hit by WSU reliever Jordan Wolfe. A single to right field and an error allowed the runner to score from first and cut the Raiders lead to 9-6.

Wolfe allowed two hits and surrendered an unearned run in the appearance, fanning three batters in two innings of work.

Oeder singled with one out in the ninth inning, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Dan Biedenharn single through a drawn in infield. That capped the scoring for the Raiders and gave WSU it's twelfth 10+ run game of the season.

Oeder paced the Green and Gold with a four-for-five game at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in a pair of RBI's. Ogrinc plated a career-high four RBI's in the contest with a homer and a double. Shoup went three-for-four in the game and Biedenharn extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a pair of hits in the contest.

The Raiders improve to 28-18 overall on the season and will return to action on Wednesday, May 9 against Toledo. The Green and Gold will host the Rockets at Nischwitz Stadium starting at 6:30.
