Men Rally in Second Half to Top Milwaukee

Wright State shot 53 percent from the field in the second half, including 56 percent from three-point range, as the Raiders erased a five-point halftime deficit and defeated the Milwaukee Panthers 70-60 Thursday night at the Nutter Center.

Milwaukee went up 20-12 at the 13:25 mark of the first half following back-to-back threes from James Eayrs and Ricky Franklin and led 25-18 after another triple, this time by Tony Meier with 9:18 left. WSU scored the next eight points, including five from Todd Brown as the junior guard reached the 1000-point plateau, to go ahead by one with 6:03 remaining, only to see the Panthers close the period with a 7-1 run to take a 32-27 halftime lead.

Wright State shot 43 percent in the first half compared to Milwaukee's 42 percent, but the Panthers hit seven of 16 three-pointers while the Raiders were four of nine.

Consecutive baskets by Scott Grote tied the game at 39 five minutes into the second half and WSU went up for good on back-to-back threes from Troy Tabler and Brown. Another Eayrs three trimmed the margin to 48-47 with 10:29 to play, but the Raiders broke the game open with a 15-2 burst over the next four minutes, nine by Brown.

Wright State led by as much as 16 at the 2:51 mark before Milwaukee tallied nine straight points to make it 67-60 in the final minute. The Panthers, though, would get no closer as N'Gai Evans hit two foul shots and Will Graham one to round out the scoring.

WSU finished the game at 49 percent from the field, including nine of 18 from behind the arc, while Milwaukee shot just 32 percent the final 20 minutes to end up at 36 percent. The Raiders led 28-14 in points in the paint, 10-4 in second-chance points and 13-6 in bench scoring.

Four Raiders finished the night in double figures, paced by Brown's 21, 15 of those coming in the second half. Evans had 17, 13 in the first half, while Grote had 10 off the bench, all in the final 20 minutes, and Graham chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Eayrs led all scorers with 22 points for Milwaukee (15-13, 10-7 Horizon) and Franklin added 18, but no other Panther scored more than six.

Wright State (17-12, 11-6 Horizon) closes out the regular season Saturday night at 7:00 by hosting Green Bay.
