The Wright State softball team opened its season Saturday at the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational, held at the Dragon's Dome in Pekin, Illinois. The Raiders dropped a 2-0 decision to Bradley before falling 11-0 to Western Illinois.

Bradley scored its first run in the bottom of the second as after back-to-back singles up the middle with one out, a throwing error on a bunt attempt allowed the lead runner to score from second. The Braves then added an insurance run in the sixth as Anne Creighton had a bloop double to center, moved up to third on a groundout to short off the bat of Lindsay Watkins, and scored as a groundout by Amanda Clack to pitcher Sharon Palma resulted in a collision between Clack and first baseman China Frost.

Palma was the tough-luck loser despite allowing just four hits while striking out six. Ashley Birdsong pitched the complete-game shutout for the Braves, striking out nine and not walking a batter in giving up two hits, a slap single by Allison Cox in the seventh.

In the second game, Western Illinois exploded for six runs on five hits in the second inning to take control. The Westerwinds added two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to round out the scoring as Kamren Ferguson limited WSU to one hit, a slap single by Briauna Birl in the second.

Wright State concludes play at the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational Sunday with a pair of games, taking on IUPUI at 11:00 Eastern followed by Iowa State at 1:00.
