Baseball Takes Series Finale 6-4 Over Butler

Box Score

The Wright State baseball team collected their ninth straight Horizon League series victory with a 6-4 win over Butler on Saturday morning at Nischwitz Stadium. Michael Woytek tossed six innings in the victory and Michael Schum closed the door with 2.2 innings of work for the save.

The Raiders struck first when Quentin Cate smacked his fourth home run of the season to lead off the second inning against BU starting pitcher Jamie Feldheiser. The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, but the Raiders would respond in the bottom half of the frame to claim the lead for good.

WSU started the inning with an RBI triple from Casey McGrew. Jeff Mercer drove in an RBI with a single and Cate collected his second RBI with a ground out in the frame to give WSU a 5-2 lead.

Gerald Ogrinc scored the final run of the game for WSU in the fourth inning, reaching on an error and scoring on a wild pitch to make in a 6-2 lead for the Green and Gold.

Butler would rally in the sixth with a pair of runs off of WSU's Woytek to cut the deficit to 6-4. But three Raider relievers would toss the final three innings scoreless, with Schum recording the final eight outs on only 19 pitches for his fourth save of the season.

Woytek tossed six innings and allowed four runs - only two earned - and striking out five batters. The sophomore improved to 1-1 on the season as he allowed only eight hits in the contest. Schum struck out three and allowed only a single in his 14th appearance of the year.

At the plate, Cate collected two RBI's and scored a run, while Ashe was the only player to collect two hits for the Green and Gold. Six different players scored runs in the contest, while the Raiders benefited from three Bulldog errors.

The Raiders are now 12-14 overall and head into a midweek tilt with Cincinnati on Tuesday, March 31, starting at 6:30.
