Box Score Wright State scored twice in both the third and fourth innings and, behind the pitching of Sharon Palma, made that stand up for a 4-2 decision over the Butler Bulldogs in the rubber game of their Horizon League series Thursday afternoon at the WSU Softball Field.
The Raiders opened the scoring with two in the third after the first two batters were retired by Butler starter Breanna Fisher. Kristen Bradshaw lined a 2-1 pitch into the gap in right center for a triple and Allison Cox followed on the next pitch with her third home run of the season to left center.
The lead grew to 4-0 in the fourth as WSU took advantage of two Bulldog errors and two walks, including a bases-loaded pass to Justine Shilt to score Lindsay Barrett.
Butler (13-22, 4-7 Horizon) scored a run in the fifth and added another in the sixth as Lauren McNulty doubled to right center, but McNulty was thrown out at third on the play and Palma (9-8) retired the next four batters in order to wrap up the victory.
Wright State (21-17, 9-6 Horizon) will take the weekend off before returning to action next week with a pair of home doubleheaders, taking on Dayton on Monday, April 13, and Toledo on Wednesday, April 15, both starting at 3:00.
