Box Score The Wright State softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie and went on to a 5-2 win over Butler in the Horizon League Tournament consolation bracket Saturday afternoon at Legends Field in Pendleton, Indiana.
It was a pitcher's duel in the early going between Raider starter Sharon Palma and Butler's Breanna Fisher as the game was scoreless until the Bulldogs tallied a run in the top of the fifth.
Wright State, though, answered with two of its own in the bottom of the inning. Louie Haney and Kristen Bradshaw led off with hits and both moved up a base as Justine Shilt grounded out to first for the second out. Mollie Berry then reached on an infield single to third to drive in Haney and Bradshaw also scored on the play as the throw in an attempt to get Berry at first was in the dirt.
Alyssa Coleman tied the game for Butler in the sixth with a solo home run, only to see WSU go in front to stay with three in its half of the frame. Three consecutive hits from China Frost, Jamie Perkins and Haney produced the first run and the final two came in as Ashleigh Jackson reached on an infield hit, with the throw to first again being in the dirt.
Jackson (11-4) picked up the win in relief of Palma, striking out four in two innings of work. Palma allowed one run in five innings, scattering five hits.
Offensively, Perkins, Haney, Bradshaw, Jackson and Katie Kine each had two hits for the Raiders.
Wright State (34-20) now advances to the consolation bracket finals against #1 seed UIC, with the matchup set for 2:00 Saturday.
