Box Score The Raiders led 3-0 early as Quentin Cate homered for the 12th time this season, but the Wright State baseball team couldn't hold the lead as they fell 7-6 in game one of a double-header in ten innings. Aaron Fields and R.J. Gundolff each posted two hits and WSU committed three errors in the game one loss.
Cate opened the scoring in the first inning as he sent a ball over the left field fence with two runners aboard to give WSU a 3-0 lead. Cleveland State roared back to tie the game at three with a single run in the second inning and a pair in the fourth.
The Vikings took the lead when Ryan Franks singled with a pair of RBI's, pushing CSU to a 5-4 lead. A single run in the sixth pushed the Vikings ahead by two, before WSU would score a pair in the seventh to knot the game.
In the frame, Griffin Knapp. Fields doubled roped a double to left center in the next at bat and Knapp came around to score from first. Fields later crossed the plate on a Cleveland State error to tie the game at 6-6.
Cleveland State would strike in the 10th inning against WSU reliever Michael Schum.
With the score sitting at 7-6, the Raiders would put the game tying run on third base with two outs in the 10th inning, but Tristan Moore grounded out to the shortstop to end the game.
Michael Schum got the loss with three innings of work, allowing only two hits and giving up one run. The freshman also struck out a batter and allowed only a single to fall to 3-6 overall on the year.
While Gundolff and Fields each collected two hits in the contests, Fields and Gray joined Kory Twede and Ryan Ashe with doubles in the contest. Mercer walked twice, including a lead off free pass to start the 10th, while Gray and Cate each reached base twice.
