Baseball Falls 3-1 at Cleveland State

Box Score

Wright State outhit Cleveland State 9-6, but the Raiders could not overcome two Cleveland State home runs as the Vikings went on to a 3-1 Horizon League win Friday afternoon at the All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.

A solo home run by Kyle Shaffer in the first gave CSU an early 1-0 lead, but WSU tied it at 1-1 with a run in the third. R.J. Gundolff bunted him to third, a Jake Hibberd grounder to short drove Moore in.

Cleveland State (7-18, 1-3 Horizon), though, answered right back with a run of its own in the bottom of the third on an Alex Gnedza double to right and picked up an insurance run in the eighth as Chuck Gasti smacked a solo homer to right.

The Raiders collected nine hits altogether and had runners in scoring position in each of the first seven innings, but managed just one run off of Cleveland State lefty Anthony Sambula (4-3), who struck out eight in going the distance.

Alex Kaminsky (2-2) was the tough-luck loser as he gave up only six hits and did not walk a batter in striking out nine. Offensively for the Raiders, Garrett Gray had three hits while Moore and Ryan Ashe had two each.

Wright State (12-11, 3-1 Horizon) wraps up the three-game series with Cleveland State Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
