Box Score The Wright State baseball team recorded its most hits in a game this season and tied its highest run total as the Raiders wrapped up play at the Homewood Suites Shootout with a 6-2 win over host The Citadel Sunday afternoon.
WSU opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second. Ryan Ashe walked with one out and a Corey Davis double put runners on second and third. One out later, Kyle Mossbarger delivered a two-run triple to center.
Wright State extended the lead to 4-0 in the fifth, a rally that started after the first two batters were retired. After Kody Krizman singled up the middle, Ashe tripled him in and later scored on a hit up the middle off the bat of Sam Picchiotti.
The Citadel cut the deficit in half with single runs in the sixth and seventh, but the Raiders matched that in the eighth and ninth. Marsh drove in the eighth inning run with a hit through the right side and Picchiotti plated the run in the ninth with a single up the middle.
Michael Woytek (1-1) picked up the win, allowing two runs in 6.1 innings with two strikeouts. Michael Schum pitched the final 2.2 innings, shutting out the Bulldogs on two hits while fanning four.
Marsh, Krizman and Picchiotti each collected three hits for WSU, which recorded its most hits in a game so far this season with 16 altogether. Picchiotti also drove in two while Ashe had two hits and three runs scored and Mossbarger two hits and two RBI.
After spending this weekend in South Carolina, Wright State (2-5) heads to North Carolina next weekend for four games, facing host Elon and West Virginia twice. WSU takes on both West Virginia (noon) and Elon (4:00) on Friday, Elon (5:30) on Saturday and West Virginia (10:00) on Sunday.
