Box Score The Wright State softball team claimed the Winthrop/adidas Invitational title Sunday with a 2-1 win over Providence.
The Raiders tied with Cleveland State as both posted a 4-1 record in the tournament, but WSU won the tiebreaker by allowing just nine runs while the Vikings gave up 18.
Wright State scored its two runs in the third. Mollie Berry led off with a single and, after advancing to third on a stolen base and a passed ball, scored as Louie Haney doubled. Haney later scored on a double to right off the bat of Kacie Rapshus.
That's all Krystian DeWitt (7-4) would need as she held the Friars to one run and five hits in a complete-game effort, striking out seven and walking two. DeWitt was named to the All-Tournament Team as she went 4-0 over the weekend with a 1.17 earned run average and 27 strikeouts in 24 innings.
Offensively, Haney and Rapshus were both two for three.
Wright State (9-8) returns to action next weekend at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Indiana. The Raiders face Eastern Michigan (1:30) and Indiana (4:45) on Friday, Central Michigan (10:00) and Michigan State (2:30) on Saturday and Indiana again on Sunday (4:45).
