Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team found the offense hard to come by Wednesday as the Raiders were knocked out of the Horizon League Tournament at the Loyola Softball Park in Chicago by falling 4-0 to Butler and 4-2 to Cleveland State.
The opening game against Butler was scoreless until the Bulldogs scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. WSU threatened in both the sixth and seventh by loading the bases, but came up empty both times as the Raiders stranded 10 runners overall.
China Frost led the Wright State offense with two hits.
WSU took the early lead against Cleveland State with two in the top of the third. Kristi Boreing led off by reaching on an error and, one out later, Mollie Berry reached on an infield hit to put runners on first and second. Frost then had a hit to left that took a funny bounce off the turf and past the left fielder for a double that drove in both Boreing and Berry.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Vikings answered with four in their half of the third.
The Raiders posed a threat in the sixth as Louie Haney singled to left and Justine Shilt had a hit through the right side, but Haney was caught in between second and third on the play for the first out and the next two batters were retired.
Chelsea Archer had a hit to center to start the seventh, but Boreing popped into a double play and a strikeout ended the game.
Wright State closes the season with a final record of 26-29.
