Box Score Brett Elder scored two goals, including one to tie the game in the second half, but it wasn't enough as Bowling Green tallied the golden goal 1:31 into overtime for a 3-2 men's soccer decision over Wright State Tuesday night at Cochrane Field.
Elder opened the scoring at the 28:44 mark of the first half with his seventh goal of the season on an assist from senior Seth Petrey, his first of the year.
Bowling Green scored twice within a two-minute span to take the lead, but Elder responded by tallying his second goal of the contest, his seventh in the last 10 matches and his eighth overall at the 77:15 mark of the second half as Joakim Carlsson had the assist, his first of the year.
The Falcons (8-7-3), however, posted the golden goal just 1:31 into overtime as Ryan James scored his second goal of the match.
"I am very proud of many parts of this performance," said Raider head Bryan Davis. "Many guys who played tonight haven't played a ton of minutes and in long spurts. Tonight's group showed a lot about the resolve of our team. We are very close to turning the corner and I believe we are in the right mindset going into Saturday's match against Loyola, the reigning Horizon League champs."
Bowling Green led 21-13 in shots, including 14-6 after halftime.
Wright State (4-12-1) closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 3, with a Horizon League match at Loyola starting at 8:00 Eastern time.
