Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team closed out play at the Tiger Invitational with two wins Sunday in Auburn, Alabama, defeated Alabama State 6-3 and Appalachian State 2-1 in eight innings.
In the first game of the day, Alabama State opened the scoring with three in the top of the third and it stayed that way until WSU began its comeback with a run in the fourth as pinch-runner Jess Gorman scored on a wild pitch.
The Raiders then took the lead with three in the fifth. Kristi Boreing led off with a double to center and Chelsea Archer followed with a triple to right to make it 3-2. Kate Kine then gave WSU a 4-3 lead with a two-run home run to left, her first of the season.
Wright State added two more in the sixth. Angie Clark started the frame with a triple to right and came in one out later as Archer reached on an infield single. Lindsay Barrett later drew a two-out walk to keep the inning alive and Kacie Rapshus delivered a hit to left to plate pinch-runner Reagan Stofcheck.
Sarah Shanika (1-0) picked up the win in going the first five innings while Chelsea Contant earned her first save of the season by pitching two scoreless frames with four strikeouts.
Offensively, Boreing, Archer, Kine and Rapshus each had two hits for the Raiders, with Archer and Kine both driving in two.
In the second game, Appalachian State tallied an unearned run in the first, but Krystian DeWitt would shutout the Mountaineers over the final seven innings, striking out six.
The Raiders took advantage of pair of errors to tie it in the third and it stayed that way until the eighth. Kine was placed on second to start the inning due to the international tie-breaker and scored as Barrett reached on an error on a sacrifice attempt.
Appalachian State had a chance to tie in its half of the eighth as they also had a runner on second due to the tie-breaker, but DeWitt struck out three of the next four batters to preserve the win.
Wright State (2-2) returns to action next weekend at the FAU Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Florida, taking on Kentucky, Long Island, Maryland and Michigan along with host Florida Atlantic.
