The Wright State softball team came up on the short end of a pair of
games against ranked opponents Saturday at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial
Tournament in Los Angeles, falling to #17 Texas A&M 11-0 and #19 and host
UCLA 8-0.
In the first game of the day, Texas A&M scored in every
inning, including a two-run home run by Mel Dumezich in the first and a solo
shot from Meagan May in the fifth.
The Raiders managed just two hits against Dumezich and
Kristen Davenport, a single to left by Lindsay Barrett in the fourth and a double
down the left field line by Taylor Knore, her first collegiate hit, in the
fifth.
WSU posed a threat in the first inning of the second game of
the day against UCLA as, with one out, Jess Gorman doubled to right center and
Kacie Rapshus reached on an infield single, but a double play ended the threat.
UCLA followed by scoring four times in the bottom of the
frame, added an unearned run in the third and fifth and rounded out the scoring
with two in the sixth.
Wright State (0-4) wraps up tournament play on Sunday as the
Raiders take on McNeese State at noon Eastern.
