Baseball Splits With Bradley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Wright State baseball team split a doubleheader with Bradley Saturday at Nischwitz Stadium, rallying for a 7-6 win over the Braves in the opener before dropping the nightcap 12-3.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one as Beau Phillips doubled to center and, after moving up to third on a Mark Fowler bunt, scored on a Jason DeFevers bunt.  WSU then made it 3-0 an inning later on an error and a RBI double off the bat of Justin Kopale.

Bradley gained the lead with five runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth before Wright State cut the deficit to 6-5 with two in the sixth on a two-run single to right by Fowler.

WSU then completed the comeback and went ahead to stay with two in the seventh.  With one out, Michael Timm had a hit to right and after Jeff Limbaugh was hit by a pitch, Cody Gardner drove both in with a double to right.

E.J. Trapino and Travis Hissong protected the lead from there as each threw a scoreless inning.

In the second game, the Raiders went up 1-0 in the third on a Sam Picchiotti RBI single to right, only to see Bradley score four times in the top of the fifth.  WSU looked to have a late rally going again in the eighth as Gardner doubled in Phillips and Picchiotti tripled in Gardner, but the Braves tallied seven runs in the ninth to break the game open.

Picchiotti had three hits overall in the second game to go along with two RBI while Phillips scored twice.

Wright State (4-8) hosts Bryant Sunday at noon.
