Men's Soccer Ties at Oakland

Box Score

A Bryce Rockwell-Ashton goal in the second half proved to be the equalizer as the Wright State men's soccer team came away with a 1-1 tie at Oakland Saturday night.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead at the 46:28 mark of the second half on a Joey Tinnion goal.

Rockwell-Ashton, however, answered for the Raiders at the 59:32 mark as the senior midfielder connected on a chip shot from 27 yards out that sailed over the head of Oakland goalkeeper Wes Mink and into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.  Sophomore midfielder Sam DeRoy was credited with the assist, his second of the year.

Oakland finished with a 22-7 shot advantage overall, including 15-1 in shots on goal, but sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Blackmer and the rest of the WSU defense was up to the challenge and maintained the tie, with Blackmer recording 14 saves.

The tie allows the Raiders to stay in third place in the Horizon League standings at 4-3-1 (13 points), just ahead of Cleveland State (4-3, 12 points) and Valparaiso (3-3-1, 10 points) heading into the final week of play.  The #3 and #4 seeds host the #5 and #6 seeds in first-round matches on Monday, November 10.

Wright State (10-5-2 overall) has the final bye date in the league schedule, but will still be in action next week as the Raiders wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, November 4, with a 7:00 match at Bowling Green.
