Box Score The Wright State men's soccer team fell behind early and could not recover as top seed and host Oakland scored twice in the first half and went on to a 2-1 decision in the Horizon League Championship match Saturday night.
It took just 5:11 for the Golden Grizzlies to take the lead on a goal by Joey Tinnion and Oakland made it 2-0 at the 34:20 mark of the first half as Gerald Ben connected on a penalty kick.
Sophomore forward Marquis Payton cut the deficit in half at the 72:25 mark of the second half with his third goal of the year as sophomore midfielder Sam DeRoy was credited with his third assist, but the Raiders could get no closer.
Oakland finished with a 14-10 shot advantage and 6-0 in corner kicks.
Three Raiders were selected to the All-Tournament in sophomore forward Eric Lynch, who scored two goals and assisted another, senior defender Emeka Ononye, who scored WSU's first goal against Detroit, and sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Blackmer, who posted shutouts in Wright State's first two matches versus Milwaukee and Detroit.
Wright State closes the season with a final record of 12-7-2.
