Baseball Drops Decision to #19 Arizona State

Box Score

#19 Arizona State scored four times in the first and, despite the Wright State baseball team scoring twice in the third, led throughout in a 7-2 decision Sunday in Long Beach, California.

The Sun Devils took advantage of three Raider errors in scoring those four runs in the first and it stayed that way until WSU cut the deficit in half in the third.

Jason DeFevers walked and Alex Boeri was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Joe Ford had a one-out single to right to load the bases.  Michael Timm drew a full-count walk to force in the first run and Andrew McCafferty followed with a ground out to plate Boeri with the second run.

Arizona State, however, answered right back with two of its own in the top of the fourth and added another run in the ninth to round out the scoring.

Ford paced the Raider offense with two hits while the bullpen of Taylor Braun, Darion Nunn, Jack Van Horn and Isaac Beller combined to allow just one run and four hits over 4.1 innings.

Wright State (2-4) travels to Kentucky for a 4:00 game on Tuesday, February 25, against the Wildcats before going back out west next weekend for a four-game set at Oregon State.
