Box Score 2 The Wright State baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday at #4 Oregon State, dropping the opener 6-4 before taking the nightcap 6-2.
In the opener, the Beavers took a 1-0 lead with a run in the second, only to see the Raiders tie it with a run of their own in the sixth. Jordan Jackson led off with a hit to left and after advancing to third on a passed ball and a Joe Ford single through the left side, Michael Timm drove him in with a sacrifice fly to left.
Oregon State, however, answered right back with two in the sixth and seventh and one more in the eighth to make it 6-1.
WSU rallied with three runs in the ninth on a run-scoring double by Jeff Limbaugh, a RBI groundout by Sean Murphy and a single by Brad Macciocchi that plated Limbaugh, but could get no closer.
Limbaugh paced the Raider offense with three hits while Ford and John Brodner had two hits each.
In the second game, the Beavers again grabbed an early lead with two runs in the second before Wright State tied it with two in the third. Hits by Murphy and Macciocchit along with a Jackson bunt put two runners in scoring position and Ford brought both in with a hit to center.
A Jackson double along with an error gave WSU the lead in the seventh and the Raiders broke the game open with three more in the eighth. Macciocchi drove in the first run with a single to right with the other two runs coming in on a Jackson sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
Robby Sexton (1-2) picked up the win as he scattered five hits and six walks over seven innings in allowing just two runs, striking out three. Andrew Elliott faced the minimum six batters in the final two frames to close out the game, fanning two.
Murphy and Macciocchi each had two hits in the second game for Wright State (3-7), which closes out the four-game set with Oregon State Sunday with a single game starting at 4:05 Eastern.
