Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team split a twinbill at Miami on Thursday, rallying for a 5-4 win in the opener before dropping the nightcap 6-1.
Miami led 3-0 in the first game before WSU scored a run in the fourth. With one out, Taylor Knore reached on an infield single and advanced to second on an error. Jess Gorman then had a two-out double to drive in Knore.
It stayed that way until the Raider offense came alive with four in the seventh. Gorman led off with a double to left center and after Angie Clark singled, a throw trying to retire Gorman resulted in runners on second and third. Libby Pfeffer drove in the first run with a single through the left side and Becka Peterson followed with a two-run hit to make it 4-3. WSU then added an insurance run on a Miami error.
The RedHawks cut the deficit to one with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Raider starter Montana Wear held on for the win.
Gorman, Knore and Hanna Floyd each had two hits to pace the Wright State offense.
It was all Miami in the second game as the RedHawks scored three in the first and another in the second to go up 4-0. Gorman smacked her third home run of the season in the sixth, but that turned out to be the only run of the game for the Raiders.
Wright State (3-17) opens the home and Horizon League portions of its schedule on Saturday with a 1:00 doubleheader against league newcomer Oakland at the WSU Softball Field.
