Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team swept Oakland in its Horizon League and home opener Saturday at the WSU Softball Field, winning the first game 7-1 and the nightcap 3-0.
Oakland opened the scoring in game one with a run in the third before the Raiders countered with two in the bottom of the inning, both coming via the long ball. Angie Clark led off with a home run to left, her first of the season, and Libby Pfeffer added another solo shot two outs later to left center, the first of her collegiate career.
WSU added a two-out run in the fifth as Jess Gorman doubled to left and Reagan Stofcheck drove her in with a hit up the middle. The Raiders then broke the game open with four in the sixth.
Krystian DeWitt (2-6) picked up the win as she allowed five hits and no walks in a complete-game effort while striking out seven.
The Raiders went up 1-0 in the first inning of game two as Gorman tripled to right and came in on a Pfeffer sacrifice fly and added another in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Clark and Gorman. The final WSU run was in the sixth as Alexis Mayle doubled, pinch-runner Kate Pfeffer went to third on a Hanna Floyd bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kacie Rapshus.
Montana Wear (3-10) pitched the complete-game shutout, scattering four hits and three walks while striking out seven.
Wright State (5-17, 2-0 Horizon) goes for the series sweep with the finale Sunday at 2:00. The game has been moved from its original noon start due to cold weather in the forecast.
