Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team wrapped up play at the Winthrop Invitational Sunday with a split, defeating Marist 6-5 before falling to Eastern Kentucky 4-0.
In the opener against Marist, the Raider offense came out strong, scoring three runs in the first. With one out, Reagan Stofcheck and Libby Pfeffer walked and Becka Peterson followed with a single to make it 1-0. A Hanna Floyd walk loaded the bases and Kortney Tackett singled with two outs to drive in Peterson and Pfeffer.
Marist picked up a run in the third, only to see WSU answer with one of its own in the bottom of the frame as Pfeffer singled and scored on a Peterson double.
Wright State then extended its lead to 6-1 in the fourth as Kristi Boreing singled and Jess Gorman followed with a two-run home run, her second of the season and second in as many days.
The Red Foxes rallied in the late innings, scoring one in the fifth and sixth and two in the seventh to make it 6-5, but the Raiders held on for the win.
Gorman, Peterson, Taylor Knore and Boreing each had two hits for WSU.
In the second game against Eastern Kentucky, Colonel pitcher Leanna Pittsenbarger limited Wright State to just three hits, two of those being doubles by Tackett and Stofcheck.
EKU tallied a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth for all of the scoring.
Wright State (2-13) was scheduled to play a doubleheader at Ohio on Wednesday, but that has been changed to a single game on Friday, March 14, starting at 2:00.
