Box Score The Wright State softball team led 2-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth, only to see Youngstown State score one in the sixth and one in the eighth for a 3-2 win in the series finale Saturday in Youngstown.
WSU opened the scoring with two runs in the second. Taylor Knore led off with a single to center and after Becka Peterson doubled in pinch-runner Rachael Oakley, Peterson advanced to third on an error and scored on a fielder's choice play off the bat of Kortney Tackett.
The Penguins closed the margin to one with a run in the third and tied the game with a run in the sixth. Right fielder Hanna Floyd, however, threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate and pitcher Krystian DeWitt retired the next two batters to keep the game tied.
It stayed that way until the eighth when Youngstown State used a walk and two singles to load the bases before scoring the winning run on a fielder's choice.
Peterson had two hits for Wright State (13-27, 8-5 Horizon), who is off until hosting Valparaiso next weekend in another Horizon League series, starting with a 1:00 doubleheader on Saturday, April 26.
