Wright State split a Horizon League doubleheader with Valparaiso Saturday at the WSU Softball Field, with the Crusaders taking the opener 4-2 before the Raiders came up with an 11-3 run-rule decision in the second game.

It was a scoreless pitcher's duel for the first five innings of the first game between WSU's Krystian DeWitt and Valpo's Taylor Weissenhofer before the Crusaders scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth and added two more runs in the seventh.

The Raiders tried to rally in the seventh as Taylor Knore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Becka Peterson had a sacrifice fly to right, but left the potential tying runs in scoring position as the game ended.

DeWitt finished with 10 strikeouts in a complete-game effort while Weissenhofer fanned nine in 5.2 innings.

It didn't take long for Wright State to score in the second game, however, as Libby Pfeffer's drive to left in the first inning bounced off the top of the fence and over for her third home run of the season.  WSU added two more runs in the second as Kacie Rapshus had a RBI single and scored as Hanna Floyd tripled to right center.

The lead then grew to 5-0 in the third as Peterson tripled in Knore and came in as Rapshus reached on an infield hit.

A home run by Valpo's Janelle Bouchard made it 5-2 in the fourth, only to see the Raiders get those two back in the bottom of the frame on a Reagan Stofcheck squeeze bunt and a Pfeffer sacrifice fly.

The Crusaders tallied an unearned run in the fifth, but Wright State forced the run-rule in their half of the inning with four runs, including the game-winning two-run hit by Stofcheck.

Montana Wear (6-16) picked up the win, striking out four in the process.  Offensively, Floyd had three hits, two runs scored and two RBI, Rapshus two hits, two runs scored and two RBI, Stofcheck three RBI and Angie Clark two hits and two runs scored.

Wright State (14-28, 9-6 Horizon) closes out the series with a single game Sunday starting at 1:00.
